Frenzy Art : Day of the Dead Art : Corazon de los Muertos - About the Art

ADMIN :: March 31, 2008

From time to time I have people asking me what a certain piece of my Dia de los Muertos artwork means. I always let them know what it means to me but also say that it may mean something entirely different to someone else, and I encourage people to find their own meaning.

“El Corazon de los Muertos”“ is my Day of the Dead version of the traditional Mexican Sacred Heart: a flaming heart surrounded by a band of bones with skulls dancing in the flames.

For me, this shows how we are, in fact, surrounded by death?not in a fearful way, but in a real way. It also shows that while we live in the midst of death (and, indeed, death will find all of us in it’s own time) the heart beats on. The fire from the symbolic heart is reflected on the five skulls (symbolizing the 5 senses) as they
hover near; showing that love illuminates all, in this life, and in what comes next.

Where we go, what we do, I can’t say for sure; but I believe that wherever we go we carry the love we share in this life.

Death is an end of appearances, not of substance.
