This is my Day of the Dead 2018 calendar. All new original illustrations. It opens up to 11 × 17 and is ready to hang. Skeletons on your calendar is a good way to remind people that time is precious.
About the Calendar
My 2018 Day of the Dead calendar is complete. This years calendar features new, original artwork by me, Ladislao Loera. There are more animals and more celebrities and always more skulls. Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, a flamingo, and a chameleon, are all featured this year.
January – Capricorn
My first zodiac Day of the Dead illustration. I thought I’d start off the year with something I hadn’t done before. Capricorn is a skeleton version of the goat/fish. You can find him here floating in front of a celestial, vibrant background.
February – Amor
February is AMOR, (love). It features a skull surrounded by and made out of hearts.
March – Huracan
March is HURACAN (hurricane). This one is a teal skull with bright pink eyes on a purple and pink background. I called him hurricane because of his eyes.
April – Brillar (2nd Mandala of the Dead)
April is “BRILLAR” (shine). Mandalas usually represent the eternity of the cosmos and I thought it was a nice way to think of death.
May – Audrey
May is my Day of the Dead tribute to Audrey Hepburn. She has long been a favorite of mine, for her work on the screen and her humanitarian work as well. Here she is in her “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” dress on a subtly colorful background.
June – Marilyn
June is Marilyn. This is my tribute to Marilyn Monroe, another favorite of mine. Here she is ready to sing “Diamonds are a Dead Girls Best Friend.”
July – Florido
July is “FLORIDO”, (in bloom). A hot pink skull with orange and red accents on a bright orange background.
August – Cameleon
August is “CAMELEON” (chameleon). A skeletal chameleon sits on a branch on a bright sunny day. You can see him taking time to smell the flowers. After all, he is dead, it’s about time to take the opportunity to enjoy what is all around us.
September – Virgo
September is VIRGO.My second Day of the Dead zodiac. Virgo floats above us, on a greenish hued background. Her golden wings light up the sky.
October – Ilusiones
October is “ILUSIONES” (illusions). This dead flamingo stares at their reflection in the water. How we see him and how he sees himself are two different things. We see the skeleton that is there, but he sees his bright pink feathered self. I wonder how much we think about ourselves is true?
November – Resistir
November is “RESISTIR” (resistir). A skeleton first on a bright pink and orange background. I’ll let you decide what inspired this.
December – Feliz Navidad
December is “FELIZ NAVIDAD” (merry christmas). Day of the Dead for Christmas? Of course! This skeleton Santa and reindeer are out making their rounds. Day of the Dead is about family and friends. It’s about being with those you love and remembering those that can’t be with you. The holidays are the perfect time to hold our loved ones firmly in our thoughts, and that is the whole idea behind the Day of the Dead.
