These Day of the Dead ornaments are one of a kind! Each one is painted by hand and the colors vary for each one. I tend to use whatever color I pick up next. This makes each one unique and each one will be a bit different. They are approximately 4” x 3”.
I start out with 1/8 inch cherry veneer. There are two layers that make up this ornament, so the finished piece is 1/4 inch thick. The bottom layer is cut and painted on areas that will show through the cut outs on the top layer. The top layer is etched, cut and painted and then the two are glued together with a heavy duty adhesive. Then they are sealed with a varnish and a white organza ribbon is added for hanging.
This design is based on one of my modern renditions of the traditional Mexican Sugar Skull, Huracan.
