Each tempered glass cutting board measures approximately 11.25 × 15.25.
What is Tempered Glass?
Tempered glass is also called toughened glass. It is glass that has been strengthened beyond the capabilities of normal glass. It is used in car windshields, shower glass doors and it is even a component of bullet proof glass. It will take some abuse and that is one of the reasons that it is used in my tempered glass cutting boards.
Because of the nature of the treatment, tempered glass, if it does break, breaks into small chunks rather than the shards that are the product of broken plate glass (also known as annealed glass). This is much easier to clean up, much safer and friendlier to use in the kitchen.
How are they printed?
When used in the sublimation process, the cutting boards are coated on the back of the cutting board. The artwork is printed on sublimation paper and then applied in a heat press. The ink in the artwork turns into a gas which permeates the coating and shows through the glass. The top of the cutting board has some texture to is but you can easily see my Day of the Dead artwork clearly through the glass. Since the artwork rests on the back of the cutting board you can chop away without harming the cutting board at all.
Uses for your Tempered Glass Cutting Board
Tempered glass cutting boards can also be used as hot plates in the kitchen, or as a trivet. They can be used as serving platters, depending on the size you get, The smaller ones are suitable as a cheeseboard or a margarita board – the perfect place to cut up your limes and have a small bowl of salt ready to rim your glasses.
Some people put them in their dishwasher to clean them up, but I would recommend hand washing in the sink. Since they are glass they are non absorbent and less likely to pass on contaminents like the old butcher block cutting boards used to. They can also add a decorative accent to your counters. Bold, bright colors with my original Day of the Dead artwork will add a nice surprise to your kitchen.
Cutting boards make excellent gifts for the chef in your life. They make a great gift for weddings, anniversaries, and house warmings. My original Day of the Dead artwork will make this cutting board as extraordinary as it is useful. The tempered glass means that it will be a piece of art that you can put to use.
My tempered glass day of the dead cutting boards are available in two sizes and each ones comes with rubber feet for stability and to protect your countertop. Each piece is printed and fired in my home studio in Austin, Texas.
